Close
your eyes and imagine you are slowly walking along a deserted dirt road far out
on the moors. It is almost midnight on Halloween eve. In the distance there
comes a mournful howl! Is it a wolf? Or is it a werewolf? You take a deep breath
and hurry on, hoping to get home before the stroke of midnight!
The
night is still and there are wisps of fog all around you, partially obscuring
the full moon. Suddenly, a black cat hops into view. It pauses for a moment, at
your feet before making a feral scream and dashing into the bushes.
A
cold chill touches your skin and you shiver! You
draw your coat a bit tighter around yourself and hurry on. You know there is a
warm fire and a comfortable bed at home just waiting for you to get there. Then,
unexpectedly, you hear the sound of a broken twig from behind you! Your heart
leaps into your throat and you twist around, expecting a ghost or zombie to be
standing there! But the road behind is empty!
You
try to settle your nerves but are unable to stop the fear from coursing itself
through your veins! You step a bit quicker toward your distant home. There is
another desolate howl from the woods to your left and your nerves fail you! You
dash to the right, off the road and run as fast as you can through the woods
until you can run no more. Breathing heavily, you reach out and steady yourself
against a nearby rock.
Then
you realize that what you're holding is not a rock. It is a gravestone! You look
around and you realize that, in your fear, you have run into a graveyard!
Now what are you to do?
Suddenly,
you are startled by a tap-tap-tapping noise coming from beyond the misty
shadows. Trembling with fear, you walk through the cemetery toward the sound,
dreading what you may find. Then, you come across an old man with a hammer and
chisel, chipping away at one of the headstones. You are relieved beyond measure
to find someone else in the graveyard.
"Holy cow, Mister," you say after catching your breath,
"You scared me half to death! I thought you were a ghost! What
are you doing working here so late at night?"
"Those fools!" the old man grumbled. "They misspelled my
name!"
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since you are already in the graveyard, it isn’t a great stretch for you to know that this week’s object is a gravestone! More precise, a gravestone with a witty saying upon it!
